The Money in the Bank (MITB) ladder match has become one of the most anticipated events on the WWE calendar since its inception in 2005. This briefcase contains a contract that guarantees the winner a WWE Championship match at any time and place of their choosing within the next year.

Other competitors: Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Christian, Kane, Shelton Benjamin

    Winner : Edge

The inaugural Money in the Bank match took place at WrestleMania 21, and it set the stage for the thrilling tradition. Edge, known as the “Ultimate Opportunist,” won the match and held onto the briefcase for 280 days, the longest reign in history. He cashed in his contract at New Year’s Revolution in January 2006, after John Cena had just survived an Elimination Chamber match.

    Money in the Bank 2006

Other competitors: Bobby Lashley, Finlay, Matt Hardy, Ric Flair, Shelton Benjamin

    Winner: Rob Van Dam

At WrestleMania 22, Rob Van Dam captured the briefcase, bringing his high-flying style to the Money in the Bank legacy. Van Dam cashed in his contract at ECW One Night Stand in June 2006, challenging John Cena. The rabid ECW crowd and RVD’s victory added an electric atmosphere, resulting in one of the most memorable cash-ins ever. RVD’s win also marked a crossover success for WWE and the relaunched ECW brand.

    Money in the Bank 2007

Other competitors: CM Punk, Edge, Finlay, Jeff Hardy, King Booker, Matt Hardy, Randy Orton

    Winner: Mr. Kennedy

Mr. Kennedy won the MITB briefcase at WrestleMania 23. Unfortunately, due to an injury, he was forced to relinquish the briefcase to Edge, who would then cash it in on The Undertaker. Although Kennedy’s briefcase win didn’t lead to a direct cash-in, it showcased the unpredictable nature of the MITB stipulation and how it could change the trajectory of multiple superstars.

    Money in the Bank 2008

Other competitors: Carlito, Chris Jericho, John Morrison, MVP, Mr. Kennedy, Shelton Benjamin

    Winner: CM Punk

CM Punk’s victory at WrestleMania 24 began a new era for the Money in the Bank concept. Punk’s first cash-in came on an episode of Raw, where he capitalised on a vulnerable Edge to win the World Heavyweight Championship. This moment solidified Punk’s status as a future star and brought a fresh dynamic to the championship picture.

    Money in the Bank 2009

Other competitors: Christian, Finlay, Kane, Kofi Kingston, Mark Henry, MVP, Shelton Benjamin

    Winner: CM Punk

CM Punk made history at WrestleMania 25 by becoming the first person to win the Money in the Bank match twice. This time, he cashed in on Jeff Hardy at Extreme Rules, turning heel in the process. Punk’s second victory and subsequent championship reign underscored his versatility and growing prominence within WWE.

    Money in the Bank 2010

Other WrestleMania XXVI competitors: Christian, Dolph Ziggler, Drew McIntyre, Evan Bourne, Kane, Kofi Kingston, Matt Hardy, MVP, Shelton Benjamin

The MITB concept expanded in 2010 with its own pay-per-view event, featuring separate matches for the Raw and SmackDown brands. Jack Swagger won the SmackDown briefcase and quickly cashed it in on Chris Jericho to become World Heavyweight Champion. Swagger’s win demonstrated how the briefcase could elevate mid-card talent to the main event scene almost overnight.

    Winner: Kane (SmackDown)

Other Money in the Bank SmackDown competitors: Big Show, Christian, Cody Rhodes, Dolph Ziggler, Drew McIntyre, Kofi Kingston, Matt Hardy

On the same night, Kane captured the Raw brand’s briefcase and cashed in the same evening against Rey Mysterio, becoming World Heavyweight Champion. Kane’s immediate cash-in was the quickest in history at that point and highlighted the strategic flexibility the briefcase offered.

    Winner: The Miz (Raw)

Other Money in the Bank Raw competitors: Chris Jericho, Edge, Evan Bourne, John Morrison, Mark Henry, Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase

Miz defeated Orton to win the WWE Championship on the Nov. 22, 2010 episode of Raw following Orton’s successful title defence against Wade Barrett.

    Money in the Bank 2011

    Winner: Alberto Del Rio (Raw)

Alberto Del Rio won the Raw Money in the Bank match at the 2011 MITB pay-per-view and cashed in at SummerSlam against CM Punk. Del Rio’s victory added international flair to the MITB legacy and propelled him into the upper echelon of WWE talent.

    Winner: Daniel Bryan (SmackDown)

Daniel Bryan’s win in the SmackDown MITB match at the same event marked the beginning of his journey to becoming one of WWE’s most beloved underdogs. Bryan cashed in on Big Show at TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs in December 2011. His reign and the “Yes!” movement that followed were a testament to the MITB match’s ability to create new stars.

    Money in the Bank 2012

    Winner: John Cena (Raw)

John Cena’s Money in the Bank win was unique as he announced his cash-in ahead of time, challenging CM Punk on Raw 1000. Despite winning by disqualification, Cena’s unsuccessful cash-in remains a rare occurrence and added another layer of unpredictability to the briefcase’s history.

    Winner: Dolph Ziggler (SmackDown)

Dolph Ziggler’s SmackDown MITB win in 2012 led to one of the most explosive cash-ins. Ziggler waited until the night after WrestleMania 29 to cash in on a battered Alberto Del Rio, igniting a massive crowd reaction and cementing his status as a fan favourite.

    Money in the Bank 2013

Other Competitors: Rob Van Dam, Daniel Bryan, Sheamus.

    Winner : Randy Orton

Randy Orton’s MITB win and subsequent cash-in on Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam 2013 were pivotal moments in WWE’s storyline. Other competitors: Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler, Kofi Kingston, Jack Swagger, Rob Van Dam

    Winner : Seth Rollins
