WWE Backlash 2024 Results, Grades, and Analysis

WWE presented the WWE Backlash 2024 premium live event from LDLC Arena in Lyon, France, on May 04. The card was short, and the show featured only five matches. However, four of them were title matches, which made things exciting. The champions crowned at WrestleMania XL defended their championships. Let’s discuss everything as we delve into WWE Backlash 2024 Results, Grades, and Analysis.

The Bloodline vs Randy Orton and Kevin Owens

The show kicked off with a tag team bout. The action started before the bell rang. Nick Aldis was tired of it and made the match a Street Fight. Randy and Solo fought in the crowd. KO landed a splash from the barricade onto Tonga. Orton slammed Tama back first into the commentary tables. Kevin hit a DDT on Sikoa on the steel steps. Orton and Owens used trash can lids and kendo sticks.

Owens set a table at ringside and landed a splash on Tonga through the table. In the ring, Solo countered Orton and slammed him through a table with a Samoan Drop. Now, The Bloodline had control, and they punished Orton and Owens with kendo sticks and a garbage can lid. Randy delivered a power slam on Tonga, followed by a drape DDT. Orton hit RKO, but Solo broke the pinfall. Solo laid Orton on the commentary desk and went for a Samoan Spike.

Orton countered it into RKO. Owens set up four chairs, two facing the other two. He crashed through them with a brain-buster on Tama. While counting, someone pulled out the referee. It was Tonga Loa, Tama Tonga’s brother. He attacked Randy and Kevin with steel steps. Sikoa slammed Owens through a chair and delivered Samoan Spike for the win.

Winners: Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga

Grades: B+

Analysis: The crowd was awesome. They sang along with Orton’s theme song. Adding the Street Fight stipulation was crazy. The Bloodline story just keeps on unfolding new layers. It was a decent match to show how ruthless the Solo and Tonga brothers can be. The future is bright for the Bloodline. Where do Randy and KO go after this feud? WWE should find an answer soon.

Bayley vs Naomi vs Tiffany Stratton

Next was the triple threat match, where Bayley defended her WWE Women’s Championship against Naomi and Tiffany Stratton. Bayley and Naomi tried to remove Tiffany early, but she outsmarted them. Stratton landed an acrobatic back elbow. Tiffany delivered a dropkick to Bayley, followed by a clothesline. Tiffany delivered an Alabama Slam on the champion for a near fall. Naomi speared Tiffany through the ropes to the floor.

Stratton sent Naomi into a barricade and into the timekeeper’s area. Bayley landed a suicide dive on Tiffany. Naomi hit Bayley with a kick, followed by a neckbreaker. Naomi delivered a split-legged moonsault to Tiffany for a two-count. Naomi hit a sit-out powerbomb for another near fall. Naomi applied the submission on Stratton, but Bayley broke it up with a flying elbow from the top rope. Bayley landed a sunset flip onto Naomi into the turnbuckles. She hit Tiffany with a Bayley to Belly for a two-count.

Stratton delivered Alabama Slams to Bayley and Naomi at the ringside of the commentary table. Back in the ring, Tiffany went for a double Prettiest Moonsault Ever. Bayley and Naomi moved away and delivered a 1D to Stratton. Bayley got the pinfall on Naomi to retain her championship.

Winner: Bayley

Grades: A

Analysis: It was an outstanding bout, and these women gave their all in the ring. Tiffany was the highlight of the match. She has a bright future ahead. Bayley got the expected win in her first defense as the WWE Women’s Champion. The Crowd was red hot for every move and every superstar.  Naomi showed a moment of respect at the end, which was great.

Jey laid him out with a superkick. Damian again took advantage and delivered a South of Heaven chokeslam for a near fall.

Priest landed two spinning kicks, but Jey replied with four superkicks. Uso delivered another spear and a splash. McDonagh saved the match by placing Priest’s foot on the bottom rope. Jey laid out JD with a suicide dive followed by a spear to Balor. Priest hit South of Heaven from the middle rope for the victory. The results were the same as in our WWE Backlash 2024 Predictions.

Winner: Damian Priest

Grades: B-

Analysis: Damian Priest wasn’t expected to lose either, but Jey Uso put on a brilliant display of effort. The tensions among the Judgment Day members keep increasing, and it looks like they are on the verge of a potential breakup.

The Kabuki Warriors vs Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill

The Women’s tag team titles match was placed on the card just before the main event of WWE Backlash 2024. Bianca soon got to her element in the match when she delivered a suplex to Asuka. Jade and Sane were tagged in, and Jade delivered a backbreaker. Belair landed a moonsault on Sane for a two-count. Asuka delivered a kick to Bianca, followed by a cross-body from Kairi. The Kabuki Warriors traded turns to dominate Belair. Sane landed a flying forearm for a near fall.

Belair fought back with a jawbreaker and a suplex to Asuka. Sane prevented the tag to Jade. Bianca finally had an opening when she hit a clothesline. Jade Cargill got the tag and hit a springboard from the top rope on Asuka and Kairi, followed by a splash in the corner. Jade slammed Sane onto the mat for a two-count. Kairi delivered a neckbreaker to Belair.

Cargill landed a modified chokeslam on Sane. Both Asuka and Kairi had Bianca and Jade in the arm bars. They powered out and slammed the Kabuki Warriors on the mat. Jade hit a German Suplex on Sane for a two-count. Belair hit Sane with a spinebuster. Later, Sane was successful in delivering the Insane Elbow. Jade saved the match. Cargill caught Sane in mid-air and slammed her face-first onto the mat. Belair delivered a KOD to Asuka for the win.

Winners: Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill

Grades: B+

Analysis: The match was more entertaining than expected. Bianca and Jade are your new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. It looks like they will be the team needed to raise the prestige of these championships, as Kabuki Warriors did nothing new in the past few months. WWE is trying to build Jade around Belair, which is not a bad thing at all.

Cody Rhodes vs AJ Styles

In the main event of WWE Backlash 2024, Cody Rhodes defended his Undisputed WWE Championship against AJ Styles. The crowd gave a huge ovation to The American Nightmare. Styles slapped Cody as he did on WWE SmackDown Face-to-Face, but Rhodes replied with a dropkick. AJ delivered a back-body drop, and Cody returned with a forward buster. Rhodes delivered a modified leg drag for a two-count. At ringside, AJ slammed Cody’s head onto the announcer’s desk. Styles had Cody in an electric chair in the ring and dropped him on the mat.

Styles went for a springboard moonsault. Cody got his knees up and delivered a snap power slam. Cody landed a Disaster Kick, followed by a bulldog. At ringside, Rhodes power-bombed Styles through the commentary table. Back in the ring, Cody delivered a Bionic Elbow for a near fall. AJ caught Cody and delivered a snap suplex. The Phenomenal One landed the 450-springboard splash for a two-count. Styles delivered the burning hammer, but Rhodes kicked out at one. Cody landed a Cody Cutter for a two-count.

Rhodes escaped the Phenomenal Forearm and Styles Clash and delivered a Super Cody Cutter from the top rope. Rhodes hit Cross Rhodes to retain his title.

Winner: Cody Rhodes

Grades: A

Analysis: It was a great main-event match for WWE Backlash 2024. It was obvious that Cody wouldn’t lose in his first title defense. However, AJ Styles showed everyone he is a certified main eventer and has been underutilized for several years. The Crowd performed even better than both superstars as they cheered every move. AJ Styles is a proven performer of the Indy Scenes, seen all over France. And Cody is a super babyface these days. So, WWE gave a brilliant main event in France.

Final Note

Overall, the show delivered more than the expectations. The quality of the matches was great. The crowd put on an amazing performance and was no doubt one of the best crowds ever. Let us know in the comment section what you like in our WWE Backlash 2024 Results, Grades, and Reaction.
