PSL 9 has seen some drastic changes in the player’s category. All franchises upgraded the categories of players who played for their teams in PSL 8. PCB posted the players retained by PSL franchises ahead of the PSL 9 draft. Before the draft, many groups made exciting trades. A total of nine local players got Promotion in PSL 9. Quetta Gladiators
Quetta Gladiators won the 2019 PSL title. Gladiators is a successful team of PSL and has played 3 PSL finals. Quetta Gladiators had 3 PSL 9 Players Promotion. Premier fast bowler of Quetta Gladiator Naseem Shah got a promotion from Dimond to the platinum category. After his brilliant performance in Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup 2022, Naseem earned a permanent place on the Pakistan cricket team. He has shifted his team to PSL 9. Naseem Shah was traded to Islamabad United by Quetta Gladiators.
Iftikhar Ahmad has been a strong middle-order player for Pakistan since 2020. He got a promotion from diamond to the Platinum category from Quetta. Iftikhar was traded to Multan Sultan by Quetta Gladiators. Quetta Gladiators have two slots available so they can pick Top Players in the Platinum Category of PSL 9. Captain of Gladiators Sarfraz Ahmad has been moved to diamond from gold.
Karachi Kings
Karachi surprised everyone by trading their Captain Imad Wasim. In 2020, Karachi won its first-ever PSL title under his captaincy. In recent two years, Karachi has failed to qualify for the knockout stages of PSL. Karachi made significant changes in the list of their retained players for PSL 9. Kings release 2020 PSL-winning captain Imad Wasim and Fast bowler Muhammad Amir. Amir can also get PSL 9 Players Promotion in the draft.
Imad Wasim traded to Islamabad United. Karachi Kings did not retain Muhammad Amir in PSL 9. Karachi Kings upgraded the category of two young players. Tayyab Tahir moved from silver to gold. Captain of Asian Games 2023, Qasim Akram, moved from emerging to gold. These two young players played a vital role in the recent win of the Karachi Kings.
Islamabad United
Islamabad United is the most successful joint team of PSL as two-time title winners. Islamabad United always plays with aggressive intent. They invest highly in younger players. That is why United has promoted the category of two young players of their team for PSL 9. Islamabad United has upgraded the wicket-keeper batsman Azam Khan category from gold to diamond.
Zeeshan Zameer moved from emerging to the gold category which is good for PSL 9 Players Promotion. Islamabad United has upgraded the category of one of its experienced players. Faheem Ashraf got a promotion from the gold to the diamond category.
Peshawar Zalmi
Peshawar Zalmi is the most successful PSL team in terms of winning matches. Peshawar has played a total of 85 games and won 45 games. Peshawar is the only team in PSL history to qualify for PSL knockout matches every year. Many young players performed extraordinarily well for Peshawar last year. Peshawar awarded many PSL 9 Players Promotion.
Muhammad Haris played a couple of seasons for Peshawar Zalmi and upgraded from gold to Diamond. Haris was also announced as the Brand Ambassador of Peshawar Zalmi in PSL 9. Yorker specialist Salman Irshad was promoted from silver to gold. Salman and Aamir Jamal turned around 1st eliminator match of PSL 8 for Peshawar with their outstanding fast bowling.
Multan Sultan
Multan has been a regular finalist of PSL since 2021. They won the 2021 PSL title. Muhammad Rizwan changed the performance of the Multan Sultan. Multan promoted a couple of players in PSL 9. Ihsanullah has been upgraded from emerging to the silver category which is good for the youngster.
Ihsanullah was 2nd highest wicket-taker of PSL 8. He got 22 wickets. He was named a Player of the Tournament of PSL 8. Abbas Afridi got a promotion from emerging to the gold category. He was the best bowler of PSL 8 and got 23 wickets. The players like Afridi deserved a PSL 9 Players Promotion.
Lahore Qalandar
Lahore Qalandar was the most unsuccessful team till PSL 7. They qualified for only one knockout round of PSL till 2021. In 2022, they won the first PSL title. Lahore Qalandar became only team of PSL to defend the PSL title successfully. Lahore Qalandar promoted categories of two players. Kamran Ghulam announced the transition from the silver category to gold.
Zaman Khan bowled the last overs of the finals of 2022 and 2023 finals of PSL. He moved from emerging to silver. Zaman Khan deserved the PSL 9 Players Promotion because he was a key player for Lahore and also played for Pakistan.
