On June 14, WWE SmackDown went live from OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland, just a day before Clash at the Castle PLE. The show featured the final build to Clash at the Castle. Cody Rhodes and AJ Styles came face-to-face. Nia Jax faced Michin, while Kevin Owens battled Solo Sikoa. Let’s review the whole show and talk about WWE SmackDown Results June 14.
Naomi vs Chelsea Green
SmackDown kicked off with the WWE Women’s Champion, Bayley. Chelsea Green and Piper Niven followed them. The match began, and Naomi dropped Chelsea with a shoulder tackle. Naomi landed the leg drop for a two-count. Green slammed Naomi face-first on the mat. Naomi hit a springboard kick and a dive to the outside. Back in the ring, Naomi landed a crossbody for a near fall.
Green tried the pinfall with an assist from the ropes. Bayley intervened and prevented the pinfall. Niven came face-to-face with Bayley. The distraction allowed Naomi to pin Chelsea for the win.
Winner: Naomi
Grades: C
Analysis: The show from Scotland had a fine opening. Naomi won, while there was a confrontation between Bayley and Niven before their WWE Women’s Championship match tomorrow.
The Grayson Waller Effect
Next was the Grayson Waller Effect with WWE Tag Team Champions Austin Theory and Grayson Waller. DIY, Johnny Gargano, and Tomasso Ciampa were the special guests. Ciampa reminded Theory that it was still the Grayson Waller Effect. He asked Theory if he was a secretary for Waller. Before Austin could answer, Grayson said changing the branding would take too much money.
Waller claimed that he could take a bullet for Theory. DIY showed a video of Waller throwing Theory in an attack. Waller said that it was AI. Ciampa demanded a title match. Waller again cut off Theory, who said they wouldn’t defend the titles in Scotland. Gargano talked to Theory. He said he believed in Theory long ago, but Waller used him to his advantage.
Waller attacked Gargano, and all four men went at it. Theory suffered a superkick because of Waller, and the champions had to escape.
Grades: B
Analysis: A vital segment. A-Town Down Under is on the verge of breaking down. Theory will come out as a potential star from the story.
Santos Escobar vs Apollo Crews
Crews landed a few punches and a belly-to-belly suplex. Baron Corbin rushed to the ringside to stop the rest of Legado Del Fantasma from interfering. They traded pinfalls, and Escobar hit a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Apollo bounced back with a Stinger splash in the corner and a clothesline. Crews continued with two German Suplexes and a fallaway slam for a near fall.
Crews hit a Death Valley Driver for a two-count. Humberto and Angel tried to interfere, but Corbin prevented it. Elektra Lopez assisted Santos in the pinfall.
Winner: Santos Escobar
Grades: B-
Analysis: Good match between Santos and Apollo. It is always fun to watch Escobar do his stuff in the ring. Baron Corbin is a baby face, which will make his future enjoyable.
Cody Rhodes and AJ Styles’ confrontation on WWE SmackDown Results June 14
The Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes entered the ring to a thunderous crowd ovation. Rhodes said that Styles had an impossible task to make him say “I Quit”. AJ Styles came out alongside The OC. The fans chanted Cody’s name loudly. Rhodes called out AJ to the ring for a one-on-one talk. AJ talked about Cody’s journey. He said that Cody quit WWE, NJPW, and ROH.
Styles indirectly mentioned AEW when he said that Cody helped start a company and then quit that, too. Rhodes said he didn’t quit any place; he chased greatness worldwide. Cody noted that Styles can’t make him say, “I Quit.” AJ told Rhodes that he can’t quit being phenomenal. Styles vowed to make Cody quit and win the Undisputed WWE Championship tomorrow night at Clash at the Castle.
Grades: B+
Analysis: Another vital segment between Cody Rhodes and AJ Styles. The “I Quit” match has enough hype now.
Backstage: The Bloodline blindsided Street Profits before Kevin Owens and Nick Aldis interrupted alongside security officials. Later, we discovered that Street Profits is in no shape to have Owens back in the main event match against Solo.
Nia Jax vs Michin
Tiffany Stratton joined the commentary team for this match. Michin landed a dive on Jax to the outside. In the ring, Michin hit the Eat Defeat. Nia rolled to the outside. Michin chased her, which led to Tiffany splashing water on Michin. Stratton paid the price as Michin sent her over to the commentary table. Michin entered the ring. Jax was ready for her, and she delivered an Annihilator for the victory.
Winner: Nia Jax
Grades: C
Analysis: This match looked like a filler on the show. Nia Jax continues to dominate the women’s division. Tiffany and Michin have problems to settle in the upcoming weeks.
Video Package: We learned that Logan Paul lost in the Tetris World Championship. As he returned home, LA Knight was chilling in his swimming pool. Knight told him to be in Chicago next week and bring the US Title. LA Knight really did what he said last week on SmackDown.
Backstage: Nick Aldis told Solo that Tonga and Loa are barred from ringside in the main event due to their actions earlier on the show. Aldis further warned that if they interfere, the Bloodline will be suspended. Heyman told Solo that losing tonight would put his Tribal Chief position in jeopardy. Sikoa told Heyman that the Wiseman would pay the price if he lost tonight.
Solo Sikoa vs Kevin Owens
Owens started in full gear against Solo. He attacked Sikoa at ringside, sending him into the Prime drink station. Solo fought back with a shoulder tackle and a running hip attack. Both men traded strikes on the turnbuckles before Owens hit a tornado DDT. Solo replied with a Samoan Drop. Owens didn’t get down for long and bounced back with a cannonball in the corner. Kevin landed a Swanton Bomb for a near fall.
Sikoa planted Owens hard onto the apron with a backbody drop. Back in the ring, KO managed to land a frog splash, but Solo kicked out at two-count. Sikoa delivered a couple of Spinning Solo for a near fall. Owens hit a Stunner out of nowhere. Paul Heyman put Solo’s foot on the rope to prevent the pinfall. KO chased Heyman at ringside.
Solo had a chance and capitalized by hitting a Samoan Spike for the win. Tonga and Loa came in after the match. The Bloodline attacked Owens. Randy Orton made the save. The Viper hit a draping DDT on Solo and an RKO on Loa.
Winner: Solo Sikoa
Grades: B+
Analysis: It was an excellent match in the main event. Solo won, which was necessary for his character to look strong. Randy Orton needs to be in a singles feud with some top stars.
Final Word
