John Cena meets a bunch of challengers

    credit: WWE

The show kicked off with the Last Real Champion John Cena. He made his entrance to a mixed crowd reaction and a chorus of “Let’s Go Cena, Cena Sucks” chants. Cena started by saying that he’s the Mount Rushmore of wrestling. He said that nobody from the past, present, or future could be compared to him. He said that he stays a thousand steps ahead of everyone else. He won the present time a year ago when he announced the Farewell Tour.

Cena described his smartness. He said that he took the opportunity at the Elimination Chamber 2025, used Cody’s obsession with being everyone’s favorite at WrestleMania, and used Randy Orton’s 25-year rivalry at Backlash 2025. Cena said that he brought R-Truth to the main event. While fans were behind Truth on social media, Cena teamed with Logan Paul and reached his next opponent, CM Punk. Cena called Punk a hypocrite.

John said that he had cracked every code in 25 years. He said that he wins matches before they even begin and he didn’t want any appreciation.  Cena said that fans will applaud his greatness once he’s gone. Cody Rhodes interrupted and reminded Cena that he pinned him at Money in the Bank. He said that Cena is not smart, he’s a genius.

Randy Orton made his return to a big loud pop from the crowd. Orton said that he wants to reach number 15 and will do everything. He called Cody his brother but said that he won’t hesitate to take him down to reach Cena. LA Knight appeared and aimed to challenge Cena by winning the King of the Ring tournament. Knight called Cena a balding bitch. Cena started walking to the back, but Ron Killings (R-Truth) attacked him from behind. WWE Officials intervened to cool things down.

    Grades: B+

Analysis: It was a solid segment to start the show. John Cena spoke well on his journey this year, especially since WrestleMania 41 Sunday. Rhodes, Orton, and Knight made valid points as well. In the end, there was a short but effective and necessary attack from Killings.

Randy Orton vs Aleister Black vs LA Knight vs Carmelo Hayes – King of the Ring Tournament

    credit: WWE

Black targeted Hayes to kick off the action. They went to the outside while Orton and Knight fought in the ring. Hayes tried to get back, but Knight clotheslined him and landed a springboard moonsault. Orton blocked BFT while Knight avoided RKO. Aleister went for the Black Mass, but Randy blocked it too. Carmelo bounced back with a superkick to Knight and a crossbody to Black.

Hayes landed a splash to the outside and Knight followed him with a baseball slide. At ringside, Orton slammed Black onto the commentary table. Black responded and sent Orton into the ring post. Hayes landed a Frog Splash from the top rope onto Knight for a two-count as Black got involved. Orton delivered a clothesline and a snap powerslam to Black. Orton attempted a double draping DDT on Hayes and Black, but Knight hit a neckbreaker on The Viper.

Knight caught Black and landed a BFT. Hayes intervened during pinfall and Knight slammed him down. Knight climbed to the top, but Bronson Reed pulled him down followed by a spear from Bron Breakker. Hayes tried to take advantage and leaped from the top rope.  Orton caught him in a midair RKO for the victory.

    Winner: Randy Orton

    Grades: B

Analysis: It was a fun fatal 4-way match. Randy Orton’s win here is good. He was in the final of the King of the Ring tournament last year. On the other hand, it looks like Black and Hayes will continue their story while Knight will go against Seth Rollins’ faction.

Jacob Fatu is all gas no brakes

    credit: WWE

Jacob Fatu came down to the ring with the camera shot following him from backstage. Fatu told the crowd to keep it to one hundred. Fatu said that Solo comes from his Bloodline but that doesn’t mean he can take credit for Fatu’s hard work. He said that at WWE Money In The Bank 2025, he reminded Solo to get in where he fits. Fatu said that it’s him against the world and he’s all gas and no brakes.

Solo Sikoa appeared on screen with JC Mateo. Solo said that Fatu was nothing, but he made him a superstar and a champion. Sikoa made an offer to Fatu to rejoin him. Solo said that he’s ready to forgive Fatu. Next week, Solo will meet Fatu in the center of the ring with open arms. Jacob would have to say, “I love you Solo”, otherwise Solo brought him here and he’d take him out.

    Grades: B+

Analysis: It was a strong segment. This story can be very interesting in the coming weeks. It has the potential to steal this summer season. Next week will be important for the progression of this rivalry. Solo has JC Mateo on his side, and it looks like a beatdown is headed Fatu’s way.

    Backstage

Chelsea Green facetimed Nick Aldis from her house and asked him to postpone her match. Aldis declined and gave Alba Fyra a chance to replace Green. Also, the women’s US Champion Zelina Vega asked Aldis about Giulia. Aldis told her that Giulia wasn’t on the show tonight. Giulia attacked Vega on last week’s SmackDown, and next week these two will confront each other in the ring.

Nia Jax vs Michin vs Jade Cargill vs Piper Niven – Queen of the Ring Tournament

    credit: WWE

Niven took Michin to the outside and threw her into the barricade. Meanwhile, Jade slammed Nia into the steel steps. Back in the ring, Jade delivered a waist-lock takedown, followed by a backbreaker on Michin for a two-count. Jade attempted a vertical suplex, but Michin countered with a hurricanrana, followed by a dropkick. Niven pulled Michin to the outside and slammed her onto the floor before landing a senton.

Nia and Niven agreed to double-team Jade with Nia hitting a Samoan Drop followed by Niven’s senton splash. Jax and Niven continued the assault at ringside where Michin launched herself with a moonsault from the second rope to take out everyone. Nia hit a hip attack, and Niven followed up with a cannonball onto Cargill in the corner. Niven went for the pin, but Nia pulled her off, ending the temporary alliance.

Michin landed a hurricanrana off the top rope onto Nia and a tornado DDT on Niven for a near fall. Jade recovered and powerbombed Michin. Niven delivered a basement crossbody to Jade. Nia crushed Michin with a senton of her own for a two-count. Nia and Niven again joined hands and took out Cargill on the commentary table at ringside. In the ring, they delivered a double chokeslam to Michin.

Jax turned on Niven and threw her to the outside. Jax delivered an Annihilator to Michin. Piper returned just in time to save the match. Niven pulled Nia to the outside and speared her through the barricade. She returned to the ring and hit the Piper Bomb on Michin. Suddenly, Jade stormed into the ring and delivered Jaded onto Niven for the victory.

    Winner: Jade Cargill

    Grades: B-

Analysis: It was a decent fatal 4-way from the women’s division. The Queen of the Ring tournament gives several women on the roster to showcase their skills. Piper Niven was the MVP of the match, and she displayed her abilities to her full potential. Jade Cargill has advanced in the tournament.

    Naomi warned the Women’s Champion

    credit: WWE

The Women’s WWE Money In The Bank 2025 briefcase winner Naomi entered the ring. She said that the surprised people in the arena were stupid. She told them about this, and this is what she deserved. Naomi reminded everyone of the time when she battled Nia Jax for the WWE Women’s Championship and Tiffany caused her to lose. She said that Naomi then was nice, but this Naomi would avenge. She aimed to smash Tiffany in the head with the briefcase and take away her title.

Tiffany Stratton arrived and told Naomi that she could only talk but couldn’t walk the talk. Stratton urged Naomi to prove herself by cashing in now. Naomi said that she isn’t stupid and would cash in when Tiffy would least expect it. Till then, she would make Stratton’s life a hell. Naomi told the Women’s Champion to proceed with caution before leaving.

Naomi left the ring and Nia Jax attacked Tiffany from behind. Stratton avoided the attack and took down Jax. However, Naomi interrupted on the apron, allowing Jax to get the upper hand. Nia delivered an Annihilator. Naomi tried to sneak in, but Jax yelled at her to get out.

    Grades: B+

Analysis: It was an excellent promo from Naomi. She has improved well since returning to the company. Tiffany’s arrival made it more interesting to watch as the two gave us a glimpse of what the future could look like. Nia Jax is likely the next challenger for Stratton for her WWE Women’s Championship.

The Wyatt Sicks vs Motor City Machine Guns

    credit: WWE

Dexter Lumis and Joe Gacy launched the attack on the Motor City Machine Guns before the match began. Once the bell rang, The Wyatt Sicks dominated their opponents. Lumis delivered a backbody drop on Sabin. Gacy followed up with a backbreaker and a springboard moonsault. He went for the cover, but Sabin managed to kick out. Shelley and Sabin bounced back with stereo baseball slides.

Sabin hit a dropkick to Gacy and a swift kick to the side of the head on Lumis. Machine Guns landed a double superkick on Lumis. MCMGs attempted their finisher, Skull and Bones a couple of times but Gacy intervened every time to save his tag partner Dexter. Uncle Howdy appeared and Lumis landed a high leg drop from the top rope for the win.

    Winner: The Wyatt Sicks

    Grades: B

Analysis: It was a fine tag team match. The Wyatt Sicks are slowly progressing towards the tag team championships. SmackDown’s tag team division is still better than Raw.

    CM Punk confronts John Cena

    credit: WWE

John Cena reached Jimmy Uso backstage and inquired about R-Truth and Ron Killings separately. Jimmy said he hadn’t seen Truth. Cena asked Jimmy to tell Ron that he’s headed to the ring right now. John Cena came down to the ring and told the crowd to shut down. He said that he can tolerate disrespect to a limit and Truth crossed it. Cena called out Truth for a fight.

Instead of Truth, CM Punk came down to the ring. Punk told Cena that the level of disrespect will rise now once he has the mic. He said that he would give Cena a chance to give fans a happy ending. Cena wasn’t interested and he called it a waste of time. Punk said that he and Lexington gave Cena a way out but now the disrespected will begin.

Punk said that Cena has never beaten him even when he was at his best. Now, Punk will stop Cena from ruining wrestling. Punk said that his confidence brought him here. Punk made fun of Cena’s attire. He claimed that Cena’s stealing from him, especially the concept of leaving with a world title. Punk said that he’s here to make Cena’s run interesting, just like old times. He had beaten him in both of their hometowns in the past.

Punk said that Cena’s the GOAT but so he is. Punk listed his Mount Rushmore and named Bret Hart, Terry Funk, Harley Race, and Eddie Guererro. He shrugged Cena’s shoulder and walked away. Truth attacked Cena from behind and applied the STF. WWE Officials broke it up while Punk was yelling, the truth hurts.

    Grades: A

Analysis: Wow! A great segment capped off by Ron Killings with another impactful appearance. CM Punk appeared out of nowhere on SmackDown and John Cena gave old times vibe as he appeared in the second segment on the same show. Cena and Punk always jam well together, and they created magic yet again with this segment. Both are some of the best talkers in the business and they proved it.

    Backstage

Alexa Bliss told Byron Saxton that she would remind everyone of who she is. Charlotte Flair arrived and told her that the room had space for only one queen. Also, Ron Killings (R-Truth) demanded a match with John Cena next week and Nick Aldis made it official.

Charlotte Flair vs Alexa Bliss vs Candice LeRae vs Alba Fyre – Queen of the Ring Tournament

    credit: WWE

Chaos ensued as all four women fought in the ring with Flair coming on top. Flair hit a series of chops on both Fyre and LeRae. Bliss returned with a crossbody from the top rope on Flair. After the break, Alba and Candice were ready for a double superplex on Charlotte, but Alexa interrupted and delivered a Tower of Doom powerbomb. Candice landed a Codebreaker on Bliss. Flair hit Alexa with Natural Selection and locked in Figure Eight, but LeRae broke it up with a springboard lionsault.

Bliss delivered a DDT to Fyre and landed Twisted Bliss from the top rope. She covered Fyre, but Flair managed to break it up at two-count. Flair hit a spear on LeRae and went for the Fugure-Four Leglock. Fyre prevented it with a superkick. Alexa caught Candice with Sister Abigail. In the end, it was Bliss who got the win. Flair had a stare-down with Bliss after the match.

    Winner: Alexa Bliss

    Grades: B-

Analysis: It was a decent match but felt sloppy at times. Alexa Bliss advanced in the tournament. It looked a bit unusual to have Charlotte Flair in a match and not winning it. It looks like Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss might face off at WWE Evolution 2025.

Cody Rhodes vs Andrade vs Shinsuke Nakamura vs Damian Priest – King of the Ring Tournament

    credit: WWE

Shinsuke immediately rolled out of the ring, but Cody caught him with a suicide dive to the outside. Andrade landed a dropkick on Cody as he was returning to the ring. Priest hit a Broken Arrow on Andrade. Nakamura returned and attacked both Cody and Priest. Andrade took out all three men with a moonsault off the top rope. Nakamura delivered a release German suplex to Priest.  Cody quickly locked in a Figure Four Leglock on Nakamura, but Andrade broke it up with a splash from the top rope.

Priest landed a brutal kick to Andrade and a double axe handle onto Nakamura. Cody retrieved a table with the Slim Jim logo. Rhodes positioned it outside, but Nakamura’s brutal kick on the top rope allowed Cody himself to crash through the table. Back from the break, Nakamura hit Andrade with an overhead kick. Cody returned with a snap powerslam on Priest and nailed a Disaster Kick on him. Nakamura struck Rhodes with the Kinshasa for a near fall.

Andrade drilled Nakamura with double running knees in the corner. Andrade caught Priest and landed a spinning back elbow followed by The Message. He went for the cover, but Nakamura broke it up at two-count. Cody launched himself off the second rope and delivered two springboard cutters. Priest attempted the Razor’s Edge, but Cody slipped out and countered with the Cody Cutter. Cody delivered Cross Rhodes to Andrade and Nakamura and pinned Nakamura for the win.

    Winner: Cody Rhodes

    Grades: B+

Analysis: It was a brilliant match in the main event. Cody Rhodes has advanced in the Kin of the Ring tournament. The match gave opportunities to all the competitors to showcase their abilities. It’s a surprise seeing Nakamura constantly getting booked on weekly TV despite the rumors of him leaving WWE soon.

Overall, it was a fun episode of SmackDown. The Lexington crowd got all of John Cena on tonight’s show.
