The 13th May edition of WWE Monday Night Raw went live from Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina. The show featured Quarterfinals for the King and Queen of the Ring tournament. The Women’s World Champion Becky Lynch was in action on the show. Let’s take a look at WWE Raw May 13 Results, Winners, and Grades.
Drew McIntyre Kicked Off
The show kicked off with the Scottish Warrior, Drew McIntyre. He told the fans that Punk wouldn’t be here as he only appears in big towns. Drew talked about how Punk calls himself Satan. McIntyre said that the greatest trick Punk ever pulled was looking like an addict without taking drugs. He can pull the trick to make fans trust him again and again after breaking their trust.
McIntyre told the crowd that if they are CM Punk fans, they are stupid. He said that Punk escaped him last week on WWE Raw May 06. Once he gets Punk, he will torture him. Drew said that he didn’t want to waste his time on a person who won’t be medically cleared for the next 20 years. Drew trolled Jey Uso for losing another World Title match. Then he said that his priority is the World Heavyweight Championship.
Damian Priest came out. Drew told him that he deserved everything but not the World Heavyweight Championship. McIntyre said that this title is an infant so far and that Drew McIntyre needs to make it. Priest told McIntyre to blame himself for his failures, not others. At WrestleMania XL, McIntyre gave Punk more importance than this World Heavyweight Championship and his wife.
Priest gave McIntyre the title match whenever he returned to in-ring action. He said he’d make McIntyre eat his own words.
Grades: B+
Analysis: This was a very solid segment to kick off the show. Drew McIntyre cooked Punk greatly here, and Priest made good points, too. A reality check for Drew McIntyre and a good, confident promo from Damien Priest made this segment much more attractive.
Iyo Sky vs Shayna Baszler
The Genius of the Sky faced The Queen of Spades in a Queen of the Ring tournament’s Quarterfinal match. Sky landed a basement dropkick early on. At ringside, Baszler delivered a vicious offense. Shayna targeted the arm and applied an armbar. Iyo fought back with a running hurricane and a spin kick. Sky laid Baszler out with a moonsault off the top to the outside.
After the commercial, Sky landed the springboard missile dropkick and a double knee strike in the corner. Sky managed to escape the Kirifuda Clutch and landed another double knee strike. Iyo went to the top rope and delivered an Over the Moonsault for the victory.
Winner: Iyo Sky
Grades: B
Analysis: It was a decent bout. Iyo Sky is a great performer. Sky advanced in the QOTR tournament. It looked like Baszler is NXT-bound, so WWE did not give her the victory. On the other hand, Sky is a former champion, and Damage CTRL needs something to stay relevant, so it was a great decision to give her this victory.
Backstage: The Judgment Day was talking with Carlito. Priest said that he doesn’t trust him. But if others want to work with Carlito, they can do that.
– Chad Gable was with the rest of Alpha Academy. Gable called Maxxine pathetic due to her performance in the Queen of the Ring tournament. He gave Otis an opportunity to soften up Sami Zayn before their IC Title match. Gable made Tozawa’s match with Bronson Reed.
Gunther vs Kofi Kingston
Legendary WWE ring announcer Lilian Garcia announced this match and praised Samantha Irvin for doing an incredible job. It will be a Quarterfinal match in the KOTR tournament. Kingston attacked Gunther before the bell and landed a suicide dive at ringside. Kofi landed a dropkick, sending Gunther into the LED apron. Gunther hit a chop, but Kofi replied with a flying clothesline. They entered the ring, and the referee called for the bell.
Kofi continued the knee attack and delivered another dropkick. Kingston followed it up with a Boom Drop for a near fall. Gunther caught Kofi at ringside and landed a back suplex on the barricade and one on the commentary table. The Ring General applied the Boston Crab on the commentary table. Kingston tried to fight back with some punches and chops of his own, but Gunther took him out with a Scoop Slam to gain the advantage again.
Gunther hit another chop, but Kofi delivered a jawbreaker. The Ring General used Kingston’s momentum against him to deliver a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Kofi landed a pendulum kick and a cross-body block off the top. Kingston escaped the Boston Crab and delivered SOS for a near fall. Gunther landed a Tyrannosaurus Dropkick followed by a vicious lariat for a two-count.
Kofi countered a Powerbomb into a hurricanrana at ringside. Kofi hit Trouble in Paradise on the floor. Gunther barely escaped the count-out at 9. Gunther delivered a Powerbomb for another near fall. The Ring General applied the Boston Crab, and Kofi tapped out.
Winner: Gunther
Grades: B+
Analysis: It was a great match between Kofi and Gunther. The Ring General advanced to the tournament’s semifinals. The performance from Kingston showed why he is a former World Champion. Gunther is in a role showing more dominance and viciousness after losing the IC title.
Bronson Reed vs Akira Tozawa
Tozawa delivered a head kick and a top rope missile dropkick. Reed then caught him and delivered a Death Valley Driver. Bronson followed it up with a Tsunami for the win.
Winner: Bronson Reed
Analysis: Chad Gable tested Tozawa against a much bigger opponent, and this result was expected. It will allow further dissension among Alpha Academy members.
Zoey Stark vs Lyra Valkyria
Next up, we had Zoey Stark vs. Lyra Valkyria from the Queen of the Ring tournament. Valkyria applied a side headlock and then delivered a diving back elbow off the middle rope. Lyra delivered a hurricanrana. Stark fought back with a clothesline. Zoey landed a springboard missile dropkick for a two-count. Valkyria fought back with an enzuigiri and hit a wrecking ball dropkick.
Lyra delivered a flying cross-body block followed by a tornado DDT for a near fall. Stark slammed Lyra and hit a suplex into the turnbuckles for a two-count. In the end, Valkyria landed the Nightwing for the victory.
Winner: Lyra Valkyria
Grades: C
Analysis: It was a fun little match. Lyra advanced in the QOTR tournament, and she’ll face Iyo Sky in the semifinals next week. WWE is high on Lyra, and she deserves everything.
Sami Zayn vs Otis WWE Raw May 13 Results
After dominating a bit in the corner, Otis wanted the Caterpillar. Gable stopped him, but Otis landed the Caterpillar Elbow Drop anyway. Sami escaped a Vader Bomb and hit Helluva Kick for the win.
Gable was not happy with Otis. Zayn delivered an exploder suplex to Gable. Otis tried to pull him back. Gable slapped Otis and told him that it was his fault.
Winner: Sami Zayn
Grades: C
Analysis: It was a short match, and obviously, Sami wasn’t going to lose. The tensions within The Alpha Academy are growing with time. Otis can become a face once again.
Becky Lynch vs Dakota Kai
Becky started off at a quick pace. She bounced Kai’s head into the turnbuckles again and again. Dakota rolled to the outside, and Lynch delivered a basement slide followed by a flying clothesline off the apron. Iyo’s distraction allowed Kai to slam Lynch in the ring. Dakota applied the chin lock, but Becky replied with an enzuigiri.
They exchanged roll-up pinfall attempts. Becky landed a flying leg drop for a nearfall. Kai replied with a pump kick for a two-count. Lynch delivered a Superplex and applied the Dis-Arm-Her. Iyo and Kairi interfered to cause a disqualification. Valkyria made the save for Lynch. In the meantime, Liv Morgan was able to hit a cheap shot on Lynch.
Winner: Becky Lynch via DQ.
Grades: B-
Analysis: It was a good match. The post-match angle was the highlight. It is great to see Damage CTRL in the top storylines on Raw, starting from where they left off on SmackDown. Liv and Becky will cross paths more often until Mami returns to WWE Raw.
Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Match for the #1 Contendership
It was AOP vs. New Catch, Republic vs. Judgment Day (Finn Balor and JD McDonagh) vs. The Creed Brothers. The winners will get an opportunity against Awesome Truth for the titles. Bate and Dunne double-teamed on McDonagh and landed a back-body drop. The Creed Brothers delivered a gut buster to McDonagh. AOP sent everyone to the outside. Akam and Rezar grabbed JD and threw him on other opponents.
Brutus landed a double clothesline on Balor and McDonagh. Julius delivered belly-to-belly suplexes to JD and Finn, followed by a double Northern Lights suplex and a standing shooting star press. Balor fought back against Julius with a Slingblade and a Woo Dropkick. Pete and Tyler laid out AOP at ringside with moonsault blocks.
Julius landed a massive superplex on Balor off the top for a two-count. McDonagh prevented the Brutus Ball. AOP joined the action and delivered a Super Collider on Balor and McDonagh. Brutus delivered a Brutus Ball at ringside. In the ring, Bate caught Akam in an airplane spin. The New Catch Republic delivered a double burning hammer to Balor, but JD saved the match.
Bate laid out JD with a somersault suicide dive at ringside. Out of nowhere, Carlito arrived and hit a backstabber on Dunne. Carlito sent Dunne back in so that Balor could hit a Coup de Grace for victory.
Winner: Finn Balor and JD McDonagh (Judgment Day)
Grades: B
Analysis: It was a fun tag team match. The Creed Brothers are always fun to watch. Carlito caused the win for Judgment Day by submitting his loyalty to the group. Judgment Day will remain the top priority in the coming months.
Jey Uso vs Ilja Dragunov
The main event of the night was Jey Uso facing Ilja Dragunov in the Quarterfinal of the King of the Ring tournament. Dragunov landed a few chops before hitting Jey with a running knee, followed by a flying knee off the second rope. Uso came back with a suicide dive to the outside. Dragunov chopped Uso on the commentary table. He went for an H-Bomb, but Jey moved, and Ilja had a hard time landing at the commentary desk.
Jey speared Dragunov over the commentary table. Back in the ring, both competitors landed hip tosses of their own. Jey delivered some YEET punches and an enzuigiri. Ilja replied with back-to-back suplexes and a Constantine Special for a near fall. Uso landed two superkicks for a two-count. Dragunov hit two knee strikes, which were followed by a powerbomb. The Mad Dragon crushed Jey with an H-Bomb for another near fall.
Jey came back to his feet and delivered a spear. Uso landed a Uso Splash and pinned Ilja Dragunov.
Winner: Jey Uso
Grades: B+
Analysis: A fun main event match. Jey Uso has advanced to the Semifinals of the King of the Ring tournament. Dragunov is doing a great job of introducing himself to the main roster audience. Gunther made his presence felt to end the WWR Raw. They glare at each other, giving their match a nice build here. One thing worth noting is that Gunther and Dragunov had small eye contact. Maybe IIja will join the Imperium to fill the gap.
Overall, it is an action-packed Monday Night Raw episode. The quality of matches has increased greatly in the Triple H era. The King and Queen of the Ring tournaments are progressing in a nice way.
