On December 27, WWE SmackDown aired from Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. This marked the final SmackDown of the year. It was also the last two-hour SmackDown, as the show will be three hours long in 2025. The show featured the continuation of Kevin Owens’ story. Chelsea Green celebrated her US Title victory, and Braun Strowman continued his domination. Let’s review the show and look at WWE SmackDown December 27 Results.
Bianca Belair, Bayley and Naomi vs Nia Jax, Tiffany Stratton and Candice Lerae
In the opening, Nick Aldis warned Kevin Owens to return the Winged Eagle Title by the end of the night or face consequences. They already hyped up the upcoming segments.
The bell rang, and the match started with Tiffany facing off against Bianca. After a bit of headlock, Bayley launched herself with a suicide dive onto Candice. Bianca landed a splash on Tiffany, while Naomi targeted Nia with her high-flying move. The action resumed after the commercial break, with Bianca delivering shoulder tackles and right hands on Nia in the corner. Naomi tagged in and delivered a dropkick.
Nia soon bounced back with a pop-up headbutt for a two-count. Candice tagged in, hitting Naomi with right hands. Naomi retaliated by slamming Candice’s face into the turnbuckle. Together, Belair and Naomi double-suplexed Candice. Bianca followed up with a standing moonsault for a nearfall. Stratton’s distraction allowed the heel team to gain an advantage.
Nia tagged in and delivered a leg drop. A heated argument ensued between Tiffany and Candice for the tag. Bianca seized the moment and tagged in Bayley. LeRae rolled outside after suffering a knee and a back suplex from Bayley. Jax tagged in again, and they double-teamed on Bayley.
After the break, Naomi delivered a back elbow to Tiffany, and a bulldog followed, but Tiffany kicked out of the cover. All six women entered the ring. Nia body slammed Bianca. Naomi took Jax down with a head scissor. Tiffany sent Naomi outside and landed a splash on her.
With Nia down in the ring, Tiffany climbed on the apron with her Money in the Bank briefcase, but Candice pulled her down, leading to an argument. Candice tagged in, and Naomi hit a full Nelson slam on Candice. Naomi secured the pin as Bayley and Belair took care of Stratton.
Winner: Bianca Belair, Naomi and Bayley
Grades: B
Analysis: It was a fun match to kick off Friday Night. The question about Jade Cargill’s mystery attacker is still there. Also, the tensions between Nia Jax and Tiffany Stratton are boiling.
Braun Strowman vs Austin Theory (with Grayson Waller)
The match began with Braun landing a powerful right hand followed by a clothesline. Theory moved out of the way of a corner splash and tried to lift Strowman, but The Monster tossed him across the ring. Theory executed a chop block followed by a left hand. Austin went for the pinfall attempt, but Strowman sent him outside with his kick-out. Theory returned and hit Braun with a dropkick. Strowman bounced off the ropes and landed a dropkick of his own.
Waller tried to interfere, but Strowman stomped on his hand. Waller escaped through the crowd. Strowman climbed the top rope, but Waller returned to the apron for a distraction. Theory attempted to lift Strowman again but collapsed. Strowman delivered a running powerslam for the win.
Winner: Braun Strowman
Grades: C
Analysis: It was a decent match. Both Strowman and Theory need to do something better. Theory can be a gem as a singles star.
Kevin Owens Video: A video of Kevin Owens in his car aired. Owens held up the Winged Eagle Title and said he is the true, rightful WWE champion. He acknowledged Nick’s ultimatum and declared that he would go to the arena on his terms, with only him and Aldis in the ring.
Chelsea Green’s Celebration
Piper Niven introduced Chelsea Green as the longest-reigning WWE Women’s United States Champion. Green, dressed like Lady Liberty, made her entrance. Chelsea thanked everyone and declared, “We did it!” She stated that they had turned the blue brand into the “Green House.” Chelsea praised her contributions, saying they would be stuck with someone from the back without her.
Chelsea dismissed Michin as a trash-loving opponent and expressed surprise that She Had made it that far in the tournament. Michin’s music hit, and she came out with a kendo stick. Michin introduced Chelsea to her little friend and raised the kendo stick. Michin attacked Niven at ringside. In the ring, Green pleaded with Michin not to attack her. Piper pulled out Chelsea, and they retreated.
Grades: B+
Analysis: It was a dramatic and entertaining segment. Green thrives in these kinds of acts. We are all seated for her run as the US Champion, and it looks like she has her first opponent in Michin. Green is definitely one of the WWE Wrestlers who Improved in 2024.
The Street Profits vs Humberto and Garza
Backstage, Nick Aldis with Street Profits questioned the other tag teams about who attacked Street Profits a few weeks ago. Pretty Deadly came out as eyewitnesses and accused Garza and Humberto. Ford and Dawkins attacked Garza and Humberto, but Aldis told them to settle it in the ring.
We returned from the commercial break, with the match already in progress. In the ring, Ford and Dawkins double-teamed Humberto. Ford delivered a shoulder tackle to Humberto for a two-count. Garza entered and delivered a dropkick to Ford. Garza hit a spinebuster on Ford and delivered a running knee to the face. Ford blocked a kick and delivered a DDT.
Dawkins tagged in and unleashed a clothesline and a spinning elbow onto Humberto, followed by a twisting neckbreaker. Garza landed a moonsault onto Dawkins, followed by Humberto’s moonsault on Ford. B-Fab took care of Elektra Lopez on ringside. In the ring, Street Profits earned a victory with a Doomsday Blockbuster.
Winners: The Street Profits
Grades: B-
Analysis: It was a decent match. WWE is putting efforts into the tag team division, but it is still lacking somewhere. The Street Profits are gaining momentum, and they can be the next to challenge for the tag team titles.
Sami Zayn vs Carmelo Hayes
The match began with chops and arm drags. Hayes quickly landed a dropkick. Zayn sent Melo to the outside and landed a moonsault off the barricade. Back from the commercial, Hayes hit a springboard crossbody for a two-count. Zayn returned with a clothesline and delivered a double axe handle onto Hayes from the middle rope. Carmelo jumped from the rope, but Zayn caught him and delivered a Blue Thunder Bomb for a nearfall.
Hayes hit the First 48 and covered, but Zayn kicked out. Hayes climbed the top rope and attempted Nothing But Net, but Zayn countered with a clothesline. Zayn delivered the exploder suplex into the corner. He prepared for the Helluva Kick, but Hayes rolled outside and began walking to the back. Braun Strowman’s music hit, and he chased Hayes to the back.
Zayn turned around and was hit by a spear from Tama Tonga. Sikoa delivered a Spear to Zayn as well. Strowman returned and took out Tama Tonga at ringside. Strowman entered the ring and shoulder-tackled Solo Sikoa, causing Solo to fall outside. Strowman and Fatu were face-to-face. Tama Tonga interfered, and Jacob delivered a kick. Solo hit two Samoan Spikes on Strowman.
Zayn tried to fight back but couldn’t. Nick Aldis and WWE officials came out as Jacob Fatu landed a moonsault off the top rope onto Zayn. The Bloodline celebrated by raising their fingers to the sky.
Winner: No contest
Grades: B
Analysis: It was a decent match until it went. The face-off between Strowman and Fatu garnered attention, and it could hint at a potential future showdown. Sami is suffering everywhere, and it needs to be fixed. Roman Reigns must appear before he goes one-on-one with Solo on Raw’s Netflix debut episode.
Nick Aldis and Kevin Owens Confrontation
Nick Aldis was in the ring with Kevin Owens, demanding that Owens do the right thing and hand over the Winged Eagle Championship belt. Owens asked for a rematch and insisted that Cody himself should come out to take back the title. Owens claimed that he had Cody beaten, and everyone knew it. Aldis threatened to ban Owens from WWE if he didn’t comply.
Cody Rhodes walked out holding the Undisputed WWE Championship. Aldis urged Cody to walk away and let him handle the situation. Cody refused and explained that he now fights for his daughters, fans, and those who believe in him. When Owens tried to speak, Cody cut him off. Cody proposed a ladder match for both championships where a referee cannot interfere. Aldis made the match official for the Royal Rumble.
Owens pushed Aldis into Cody and attacked Cody’s neck. Owens left the ring with the Winged Eagle Championship as WWE officials rushed down, and SmackDown went off the air.
Grades: A
Analysis: The rematch between KO and Cody Rhodes is official for the Royal Rumble, with an added stipulation of a ladder match. This story is getting interesting day by day, and we have another month to see what Kevin does.
