Jacob Fatu (c) vs Drew McIntyre vs Damian Priest vs LA Knight – WWE United States Championship

The first match of the night was the fatal four-way for the US Title. Knight dominated in the early go of the match. He delivered a neckbreaker to Fatu, a back suplex to Priest, and a baseball slide to McIntyre. He continued the assault with a DDT on Priest, a jumping elbow drop on McIntyre, and a reverse DDT on Fatu. Next up was McIntyre’s turn, who landed a Belly-to-Belly suplex on Knight and a spinebuster on Priest, followed by neckbreakers on these two. McIntyre laid out the champion with a neckbreaker as well.
Damian Priest got the upper hand for the next couple of minutes. He hit a flatliner on Priest and a super hurricanrana on Fatu. Priest smashed Fatu with a clothesline and landed a cross-body on McIntyre. Fatu joined the party as he delivered a Samoan Drop to Priest at ringside, and the crowd came unglued. Priest and Fatu exchanged punches in the center of the ring. McIntyre delivered a Glasgow Kiss, but Fatu responded with a Samoan Drop and a running hip attack.
In an amazing moment, McIntyre executed a sit-up superplex on Fatu, who landed right onto Knight with a Swanton Bomb. Fatu crushed Priest with a suicide dive on the outside but suffered a BFT from Knight as he came back in the ring. Priest hit Knight with a South of Heaven chokeslam before McIntyre hit a Claymore on Priest. Everyone was down in the ring with “This is Awesome” chants echoing through the Enterprise Center.
McIntyre delivered Future Shock DDTs to all his opponents. He delivered a Claymore to Knight and covered for the count. Priest pulled out the referee, and McIntyre was furious. Priest and McIntyre fought through the crowd, and Priest delivered a South of Heaven chokeslam through a set of tables. In the ring, Knight landed two jumping elbow drops on the champion for a two-count. Knight looked to incapacitate Fatu at the ringside area.
Solo Sikoa made the save for Fatu. Solo brought the debutant Jeff Cobb with him. Cobb attacked Knight and threw him back in the ring. Fatu was confused but took advantage of the situation. The Samoan Werewolf landed a double moonsault for the victory.
Winner: Jacob Fatu
Grades: A
Analysis: It was a hell of a match to kick off WWE Backlash 2025. Everyone got the time to showcase their skills. McIntyre and Priest, coming off a Sin City Street Fight at WrestleMania 41 Sunday, will seemingly continue their feud in the coming weeks. Fatu was impressive as always and had the crowd behind him throughout. Even though Fatu rejected Solo’s offer to bring someone on SmackDown, still Sikoa brought Jeff Cobb. It will be interesting to see the story going forward.
Lyra Valkyria (c) vs Becky Lynch – WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship

The match began at a quick pace with both struggling for the upper hand. Valkyria applied the Mexican Surfboard stretch and a Northern Lights suplex for a two-count. The champion landed a dropkick, but the challenger replied with a kick and a Bexploder. Lyra hit a fisherman’s suplex and a gutwrench sit-out powerbomb for a near fall. From the top rope, Valkyria landed a delayed superplex. Soon, Becky got back with a reverse DDT. Valkyria landed a plancha to the outside and a top rope leg drop in the ring.
Both exchanged arm submissions for a while. Becky hit the Manhandle Slam for a two-count. Lynch tried to use the chair, but the referee prevented it. Valkyria delivered a German Suplex and a middle rope moonsault for a near fall. Valkyria kicked out of a Manhandle Slam, and Lynch kicked out of a Nightwing. In the end, it was a roll-up victory for Valkyria. An irate Lynch applied the Dis-Arm-Her on the champion as WWE Officials came for the save.
Winner: Lyra Valkyria
Grades: B+
Analysis: It was a very good battle from the women’s division. Both delivered an impressive performance here. Becky made Lyra look like a star. This is exactly what needs to be done with the mid-card women’s championships. This feud will continue in the coming weeks.
Dominik Mysterio (c) vs Penta – WWE Intercontinental Championship

Penta rushed and landed a dropkick, followed by a hurricanrana. Dom replied with a hurricanrana of his own and landed a suicide dive into DDT at the ringside. The champion landed a slingshot senton for a two-count. Penta crashed into Dominik with a cross-body block from the top of the ring post to the outside. Penta avoided Three Amigos and a 619, but Mysterio dug into his girl’s arsenal and hit an Ob-Liv-ion for a near fall. The action spilled to the apron where Penta delivered a Mexican Destroyer.
The Judgment Day came to Dom’s aid. Carlito interrupted the referee as Balor and McDonagh had to attack Penta. However, Balor delayed the attack, and the referee noticed them. The referee ejected them from the ringside. Back in the ring, Penta hit a superkick on Mysterio. Balor again stepped up the apron and distracted the referee. Penta was on the top rope on the other side, and El Grande Americano headbutted him with a steel plate in his mask. Mysterio landed a frog splash for the win!
Winner: Dominik Mysterio
Grades: B
Analysis: It was a fun match. The crowd was totally involved in the action, and Dominik received a good reaction. Penta lost but has a new opponent in El Grande Americano who defeated Penta’s brother Rey Fenix at WrestleMania 41 Saturday. Also, they always show a little bit of misunderstandings and tensions between Finn Balor and other Judgment Day members. Tonight, Balor almost spoiled things for Dom. A heated feud is boiling over this summer.
Gunther vs Pat McAfee

This match was all Gunther. The Ring General was unfazed by anything coming from McAfee. Pat hit a few slaps and chops, but Gunther replied with chops of his own and big boots. The Ring General landed a couple of German Suplexes. Gunther kept taunting Michael Cole and the crowd. McAfee showed some life with a superkick, but Gunther delivered a Powerbomb.
Cole tried to intervene and help McAfee, but Gunther survived. In the end, Gunther applied the Sleeper Hold for so long that McAfee was unconscious. The referee called for the bell and declared the Ring General as the winner. After the match, Gunther made a gesture of respect for McAfee.
Winner: Gunther
Grades: C
Analysis: It was not a very good wrestling match, nor was it going to be. Gunther dominated throughout as discussed in WWE Backlash 2025 Predictions, and McAfee showed some fight a couple of times. Goldberg was heavily expected here, but he didn’t appear.
John Cena (c) vs Randy Orton – Undisputed WWE Championship

The action started with both wrestlers circling each other in the ring. They locked up multiple times, but neither could gain control. Cena tried to show some sportsmanship by offering his hand to Orton, who simply smirked in response. After a brief moment, Cena offered his hand again, but when Orton accepted, Cena took advantage and poked him in the eye. This sneaky move set the tone for the match, showcasing the rivalry between the two competitors.
As they continued, Cena charged back into the ring after a moment outside. Orton quickly took the lead with a side headlock, and they wrestled on the mat for a while. Cena contemplated walking away to avoid losing his title by disqualification, but Orton was not having any of it. He punched Cena back into the ring, where Cena retaliated with a flurry of strikes. The two men exchanged blows in the corner, and Orton landed over twenty punches to Cena’s forehead, with the crowd counting along. Orton attempted a cover, but Cena kicked out at two, keeping the match alive.
The match progressed with both wrestlers applying sleeper holds and trading suplexes. Just when it seemed like Orton was gaining the upper hand, Cena countered Orton’s attempt with an Attitude Adjustment. The action escalated as both men fought fiercely, exchanging powerful moves. Cena delivered a sudden AA, but Orton managed to kick out. They were both visibly exhausted, but neither was willing to give up the fight. The crowd was deeply invested, cheering for their favorite as the stakes continued to rise.
Chaos erupted when Cena and Orton began to push the limits of the match. Cena hit another AA, but just then, the referee was accidentally knocked out during the action. Orton seized the moment and attempted his RKO, but the referee was still down. Outside the ring, Orton set up a table and sent Cena crashing into it. The crowd roared as they witnessed the brutal moment between two veterans. Orton hit a flurry of RKOs to the referees, Nick Aldis, and the other support staff.
In the final moments of the match, both wrestlers were desperate for the win. Orton went for the Punt Kick, but R-Truth entered the ring to save his childhood hero. Orton hit an RKO out of nowhere as well to R-Truth. Cena recovered and landed a powerful blow with his championship belt on Orton. And finally, he managed to pin Orton for the victory.
After the match, Cena addressed the audience, expressing his desire for genuine competition and declaring himself the last real champion. As he posed with his title, an emotional moment unfolded when the crowd chanted, “Thank you, Cena.” He paused, seemingly touched, and wiped his eyes before draping the belt over his shoulder and leaving the ring, having successfully retained his championship.
Winner: John Cena
Grade: A
Analysis: The two veterans clashed for the top prize once again after many years. The legacy of these two stars showed that WWE remained in the best possible hands in the last two and a half decades. The match was not a 5 star classic, but it had everything we expected from these two. There were crowd reactions, AAs, RKOs, referee attacks, tables, and everything you have thought of. John Cena winning was the right move, as Randy does not need a championship to stay relevant now, as Cena is doing great work in his last year in WWE. Who will be the next challengers for the Last Real Champion? A question WWE must answer soon.
That’s it from WWE Backlash 2025 Results. Are you happy with how the show turned out?
