    Biography of Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony is an American professional basketball player born on May 29, 1984, in Red Hook, Brooklyn, New York. He stands at 6 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 238 pounds. Anthony attended Syracuse University from 2002 to 2003, leading the Orange to a National Championship in his freshman year. He was a dominant small forward known for his scoring, rebounding, and clutch shooting abilities.

Anthony has played in the NBA for the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Portland Trail Blazers from 2003 to the present. He’s a 10-time NBA All-Star, 2-time All-NBA Team selection, and won the NBA scoring title in 2013.

Anthony has also represented the United States in international competitions, winning gold medals at the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Summer Olympics. With a career average of 22.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in 1,260 games, Anthony is considered one of the greatest scorers in NBA history.

NBA career: Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks

Anthony, a forward, was taken third overall in the 2003 NBA draft by the Denver Nuggets. In his debut year, he started all 82 regular-season games and averaged 36.5 minutes per game. He averaged 21 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game that year. He helped the Nuggets win 43 games, more than tripling their previous season’s total and securing a playoff spot. Anthony’s rookie season was ranked second only to that of Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James.

Following his rookie season, Anthony improved his game performance, averaging 28.9 points per game in 2006-07 and becoming the second youngest player in NBA history to reach 5,000 points. He helped the Nuggets go to the 2008-09 Western Conference finals when they were defeated by the eventual champion Los Angeles Lakers. Anthony’s time in Denver, however, was marred by the team’s playoff failures, as the Nuggets fell in the first round of six of the seven postseasons in which he guided them. Anthony was moved to the Knicks in February 2011 amid much discussion about how the small-market Nuggets could pay him when he became a free agency at the end of the season.

Anthony’s personal history of first-round playoff exits continued during his first two postseasons in New York, but in 2012-13, he led the Knicks to the Eastern Conference’s second-best record, and his 28.7 points per game led the league. That Knicks season ended in a loss in the second round of the playoffs, but the following season was terrible, with the team finishing 37-45 and missing the playoffs despite Anthony’s sustained scoring dominance (27.4 points per game). The Knicks were much worse in 2014-15, finishing with a league-worst 10-43 record when Anthony was sidelined for the rest of the season with a knee injury in February 2015.

He returned to play 72 games for the Knicks in 2015-16, with a new emphasis on ball distribution (he averaged a career-high 4.2 assists per game), but the team finished 32-50, missing the playoffs once more. In 2016-17, Anthony continued to score (averaging 22.4 points per game), but the Knicks struggled and missed the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season.

    Later NBA Career and Olympics

In the next offseason, Anthony dealt with the Oklahoma City Thunder. For the first time in his career, he was not the Thunder’s leading scorer, and he averaged a career-low 16.2 points per game in 2017-18. He was traded to and released by the Atlanta Hawks the following offseason before signing with the Houston Rockets. However, the ball dominance and volume scoring that had made Anthony a star a decade prior had fallen out of favor in the NBA by 2018-19, and he appeared in only ten games with Houston before being pulled from the team’s rotation.

He was traded to the Chicago Bulls but was let go in February 2019. Anthony declined to sign with another team for the remainder of the season. He joined the Portland Trail Blazers in November and played for them for two seasons until signing with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2021. Anthony will enter free agency after one season with the Lakers. However, he failed to sign with a team and retired in 2023. During his 19 NBA seasons, he averaged 22.5 points and 2.7 assists a game.
