    Toby Mutombo, Dikembe Born on June 25, 1966. Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo is a former professional basketball player who also happens to be of Congolese and American descent. In the National Basketball Association Mutombo played for a total of 18 seasons.

    The nickname “Mount Mutombo” was given to him because of his exceptional defensive ability and he is widely considered to be one of the best shot blockers and defensive players in the history of the universe. As a result of his four NBA Defensive Player of the Year titles he is tied with Ben Wallace and Rudy Gobert for the most accomplishments in this category.

    In addition to being selected to eight All-Star teams Mutombo led the National Basketball Association in blocked shots three times and rebounding twice.

    On January 10, 2007 Mutombo moved up to the second spot on the list of athletes who have blocked shots throughout their NBA careers. The charitable work that he does outside of basketball has earned him a lot of notoriety.

    At the age of 21 Mutombo traveled from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the United States in order to play NCAA basketball for Georgetown. He is a center who stands 7 feet 2 inches (2.18 meters) tall and weighs 260 pounds (120 kilograms).

    While participating in the NBA draft in 1991 the Denver Nuggets selected Mutombo with the fourth overall pick. During the course of his long career in the NBA he played for six different clubs. As a member of the Philadelphia 76ers in 2001 and the New Jersey Nets in 2003, Mutombo participated in the NBA Finals on two separate occasions.

    Mutombo made the announcement that he would be retiring following the 2009 NBA playoffs. There have been two teams that have retired his No. 55 jersey the Denver Nuggets and the Atlanta Hawks. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame acknowledged Mutombo’s accomplishments by inducting him on September 11, 2015.

    The Congolese professional basketball player Bismack Biyombo Sumba was born on August 28, 1992. He is presently a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder a team that competes in the National Basketball Association.
