WWE will present the 20th edition of WWE Backlash premium live event, this year. Starting in 1999, the show has been nearly consistent in WWE’s annual plan. It has produced some of the memorable moments over the years. It is often referred to as “WrestleMania Backlash,” which sums up its uniqueness. Backlash is held right after WrestleMania, the biggest WWE PLE of the year, and brings new storylines and exciting matchups. Let’s look at WWE Backlash 2025 Predictions and all other details.

WWE Backlash 2025 Date and Venue

This year’s Backlash will be held on Saturday, May 10. The Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri, will host WWE Backlash. Last year’s Backlash from Lyon, France, was a success for WWE. Especially, the crowd was one of the loudest ever, and the same kind of energy will be expected here.

WWE Backlash 2025 Predictions

Gunther vs Pat McAfee

Let’s begin with an unusual but very interesting matchup. Pat McAfee will return to in-ring action against the Ring General, Gunther. The build-up to this match was good and intense. Gunther is a lost and frustrated man after losing the World Heavyweight Championship to Jey Uso on WrestleMania 41 Saturday. On Raw after WrestleMania 41, Gunther attacked Michael Cole. This led to McAfee’s interference, who then suffered the wrath of the Ring General.

Pat McAfee, on the other hand, is not new to in-ring action. It will be his 8th match wrestling for the WWE. He debuted in 2020 against Adam Cole in an acclaimed match on NXT. Other than that, he’s been part of WrestleMania 38 and WrestleMania 39, where he defeated Austin Theory and The Miz, respectively. He has proven his skills, but still, you can’t say that he is a star on the caliber of someone like Gunther.

Predicting a winner here is easy. Pat McAfee stands no chance against the Ring General. Gunther will humiliate Pat in the ring, and it will likely be an almost squash match. This win will maintain Gunther’s stardom even after the loss at WrestleMania and will get him ready for major summer plans.

Jacob Fatu (c) vs Drew McIntyre vs Damian Priest vs LA Knight – WWE United States Championship

The newly crowned United States Champion, Jacob Fatu, will defend his title against Drew McIntyre, LA Knight, and Damian Priest in a fatal 4-way match. LA Knight lost the title to Fatu at WrestleMania 41 Saturday, and a search for the rematch landed him in this match. Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest are coming off a Sin City Street Fight at WrestleMania and will continue their differences here.

Multiple fans are unhappy with McIntyre’s involvement in this program. They were expecting a mega program for him after WrestleMania. The Scottish Warrior really has a top feud long overdue, and his great work in the past year or so makes him a major winner contender here. The multi-star stuff has garnered attention, and a hard-hitting battle is expected.

Talking about the winner, Jacob Fatu has a major target ahead of him. His title reign is off to a bang start, but with a tough venture in unfavorable conditions. However, we predict that the Samoan Werewolf will be “ALL GAS NO BRAKES” on Sunday and will retain the US Championship. He has just won the title, and there’s no point in him losing this much early. McIntyre has decent chances, though.

Winner Pick: Jacob Fatu

Lyra Valkyria (c) vs Becky Lynch – WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship

Lyra Valkyria will have her dream match against her idol, Becky Lynch, when she defends the Women’s IC Title at WWE Backlash 2025. Lynch returned at WrestleMania 41 and teamed with Valkyria. They won the women’s tag team championships before losing them on the Raw after WrestleMania. The loss infuriated The Man, who turned on her tag partner, leading to this battle.

Valkyria has a good chance to make a name for herself in this feud. The women’s mid-card championships brought no interest since their arrival. We predict Becky Lynch to win the title here. A star of her caliber can elevate the title to new heights, and the fans will start caring. The feud can go to multi-matches, with Valkyria eventually going on top. Currently, the title needs Lynch more than she needs the title.

Winner Pick: Becky Lynch

Dominik Mysterio (c) vs Penta – WWE Intercontinental Championship

credit: WWE

Dominik Mysterio will clash with Penta for the Intercontinental Championship. Mysterio captured the championship at WrestleMania 41 in a fatal 4-way match. Penta was a part of that match as well and delivered an impressive performance in his WrestleMania debut. Many wanted Penta to win at WrestleMania which didn’t happen. He has good chances in this singles match.

However, Dominik’s reign has just begun, and he can do wonders with the title. The fans’ perspective has started to change for him in recent weeks, when he received cheers from the crowd. Also, WWE can explore unique stuff in the upcoming months using the tensions rising between the Judgment Day. A feud between Mysterio and Balor can grace the summer this year. So, our prediction will go for Dominik to retain his IC Title.

Winner Pick: Dominik Mysterio

John Cena (c) vs Randy Orton – Undisputed WWE Championship

credit: WWE

Billed as “One Last Time”, John Cena and Randy Orton will collide in one final match, this time for the Undisputed WWE Championship. John Cena won the record 17th World Title in the main event of WrestleMania 41 Sunday, where he defeated Cody Rhodes. Right after WrestleMania, WWE gave us the dream feud between two of the all-time greats.

First, let’s discuss whether it should have been Cena’s last match in this retirement tour. It is a valid point regarding the history between the two. However, WWE perfectly used the opportunity to give Orton this match in his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri. The crowd will be wild for this battle, and Orton might receive the pop of a lifetime.

The build-up to this match was interesting. Orton and Cena have thrown it down over 20 times in their careers, but it’s the first time that Cena’s a heel and Orton’s a good guy. This fact alone opens a portal of possibilities in this match. Also, Cena wants to ruin wrestling while Orton aims to stop him. Randy is a mentor to Cody Rhodes, which gave him a reason to go for Cena as well.

In the end, predicting a winner is easier than it looks. Orton might have another world title run in him, but this isn’t the time for that. Our prediction is that Cena will add another cheap move to his arsenal and find a way to successfully defend the title at WWE Backlash 2025. Result either way, this is a dream match, especially looking at the fact that it’s the last time between these two. The greatness of this battle lies beyond the limits of winning.

Winner Pick: John Cena
