WWE SmackDown on August 08 aired from Bell Center in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The show featured the fallout from WWE’s first-ever two-night SummerSlam Premium Live Event. John Cena appeared and addressed Brock Lesnar’s attack on him. Cody Rhodes also appeared on the show after winning the Undisputed WWE Championship. Let’s look at everything on the show and find out WWE SmackDown August 08 Results.
John Cena kicked off the show
The show opened with the 17-time World Champion, John Cena. The crowd was electric for the GOAT. The ring announcer provided a special introduction for Cena as he posed in the ring. Cena said that WWE feared coming into this building because they thought the crowds would hijack the show. However, Cena himself didn’t feel like that because, according to him, the crowd is the show. Cena said the crowd is deafening here, and WWE was afraid to plan a show around them. He said that he always enjoyed crowds singing.
There were loud chants of “Thank You, Cena,” and the overwhelming crowd’s reaction visibly moved John. Cena said that he has 11 dates left after tonight and knows he won’t be able to do much for the audience. Cena expressed his fear that the crowd might forget him after he’s gone, to which the audience gasped and chanted “No”. Cena noted that he’s afraid of Brock Lesnar because Lesnar now has a John Cena problem.
Cena warned every superstar that they now have a big John Cena problem. Cena told Lesnar to get some if he wants some. Logan Paul interrupted and told Cena that he switched. Logan said that he respected Cena once, but no more. Paul returned a reference from the past where Cena praised Logan’s skills as a professional wrestler. Cena admitted saying that, but he called Logan the biggest dumbass he’s ever met.
Logan challenged Cena to a match at Clash in Paris. Drew McIntyre attacked Cena from behind, but Cody Rhodes made the save. Rhodes took out McIntyre while Cena sent Logan to the outside. Cena accepted Logan’s challenge. Also, Cena proposed a tag team match for tonight with him and Cody against a team of McIntyre and Logan Paul.

Analysis: It was a fantastic start to the night. It is so good to see old John Cena back. Logan Paul and John Cena’s program is long overdue. We have rumors of it even before the Retirement Tour began. Finally, it will happen at the Clash in Paris. This segment also hinted at a rivalry between Cody and Drew for the WWE Championship. McIntyre deserves this, and we can’t wait to see. The tag team match was set for the main event of the night.
Motor City Machine Guns vs The MFTs (Talla Tonga and JC Mateo)
The Motor City Machine Guns used their quickness early in the match. Shelly and Sabin landed a flatliner/missile dropkick combo on Mateo, followed by Sabin’s dropkick to Tonga. Shelley held the ropes as Sabin delivered a suicide dive on Mateo. Solo Sikoa was seated at the ringside. Talla’s power came in handy as the MFTs gained control. JC hit a clothesline on Shelley. Talla landed a big boot and a backbreaker, keeping Shelley down.
Tonga and Mateo stopped Shelley from making the tag, but Shelley somehow made it to his tag team partner. Sabin exploded with a crossbody block and nailed JC with a tornado DDT for a near fall. MCMG double-teamed Tonga, but Mateo countered with a double clothesline. Mateo planted Sabin with an inverted exploder suplex. Tonga blindly tagged in and leveled Shelley with a big boot off the top rope. Talla delivered a Chokeslam for the victory.
Winners: The MFTs
Grades: C
Analysis: It was a decent tag team match. WWE is pushing The MFTs to the tag team titles. Seeing Talla Tonga showing more variations of himself inside the ring was good. MCMG still showed scars from the TLC match but delivered a satisfactory performance.
Solo Sikoa vs Sami Zayn – Non-Title Bout
After the tag team match, Solo Sikoa entered the ring and said the MFTs would soon get their hands on the tag team gold. Sikoa called himself the greatest US Champion of all time. He said he was ready for a fight in his ring gear, but no one was worthy of challenging him. SmackDown GM Nick Aldis came out and presented Solo with his opponent. It was the homeboy Sami Zayn, and the crowd erupted on his arrival.
The match began, and Sami delivered ten punches in the corner. Solo tried the same, but Zayn tripped him and landed a chop. Zayn clotheslined Sikoa to the outside, followed by a somersault senton. Sikoa distracted the referee, allowing Talla to knock Zayn out. After the break, Sami hit a sunset flip powerbomb for a two-count. Zayn attempted the Blue Thunder Bomb but could not lift the US Champion. Sikoa landed a Spinning Solo for a near fall.
Zayn delivered an exploder suplex in the corner. Mateo and Talla tried to interrupt, but Sami dealt with them. Solo took advantage and landed a superkick. He prepared for the Samoan Spike, but Zayn moved out of the way and rolled Solo for the win. The MFTs entered the ring for some payback, but Sami quickly escaped.
Winner: Sami Zayn
Grades: B
Analysis: It was a fun match to get the crowd going. It was a brilliant crowd, and they were all behind their fellow Canadian, Sami Zayn. We hope it’s not a one-off battle and that the non-title win here will give Sami an opportunity for the US Title in the future.
Alexa Bliss’ Birthday Celebration
Charlotte Flair knew that tomorrow would be Alexa Bliss’ birthday, and she had a gift for her tag team partner. There was a cake in the middle of the ring with Flair’s and Bliss’s names, with a birthday wish. Charlotte gave Alexa the Lilly doll as a gift, and had a Charley doll. They were going to hug, but Secret Hervice interrupted. Chelsea Green wasn’t happy with how her Canadian crowd supported Americans. She told everyone to celebrate her homecoming. Nick Aldis made a match on the spot.
Charlotte Flair vs Chelsea Green
Charlotte Flair dominated Green with chops and a head kick. The Queen took out Piper Niven and Alba Fyre with quick strikes before hitting Green with a flying crossbody. Green kicked Flair’s head into the turnbuckle and posed on the second rope. Back from the break, a birthday cake sat ominously at ringside. Flair landed a walkover clothesline and a German suplex. Charlotte struck with Natural Selection for a close count.
Flair cut Green off on the top rope and delivered a superplex. The Secret Hervice tried to interrupt, but Alexa Bliss took them out with a cannonball. Green attempted Unpretty-Her into the cake, but Flair reversed it and planted Green into the dessert. Flair locked in the Figure Four, transitioned into the Figure Eight, and Green was forced to tap out.
Winner: Charlotte Flair
Grades: B-
Analysis: It was a lot of fun in this segment. Chelsea Green is an ultimate entertainment package, and she delivered in front of her home crowd. Flair and Bliss had a better segment than the one on August 4th Raw.
Backstage
John Cena and R-Truth reunited backstage. It was a cool moment, and the crowd cheered. Elsewhere, Carmelo Hayes questioned The Miz about his downfall. Hayes said Miz promised to take him to the top, but he’s getting down instead. Miz said he has got them a tag team match next week.
John Cena and Cody Rhodes vs Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul
Cody Rhodes started the match against Logan Paul. Rhodes hit a shoulder tackle followed by a Stardust-style cartwheel. Cody delivered a delayed front suplex and pointed towards Cena. Logan nearly stole the win with a roll-up. Paul tagged in Drew McIntyre, who came in with a flurry of strikes. Rhodes responded with a snap powerslam. Drew’s Glasgow Kiss sent Cody outside, where Logan clotheslined him as the referee was distracted.
Cody was assaulted with a double-team vertical suplex and a tilt-a-whirl slam for a near fall. McIntyre delivered a delayed vertical suplex for another close fall. Rhodes finally managed to send McIntyre into the ring post and tagged in Cena. John entered with his signature “5 Moves of Doom” — two shoulder tackles, a back suplex powerbomb, the “You Can’t See Me” taunt, the Five Knuckle Shuffle, and an Attitude Adjustment on Logan.
McIntyre saved the match and attempted a Claymore Kick, only to be met by a superkick from Rhodes. The American Nightmare sent the Scottish Warrior outside and hit a suicide dive. Paul delivered a low blow to Cena in front of the referee, resulting in a disqualification. After the bell, Paul chased Cena to the back. McIntyre smashed Cody’s head with the championship belt and landed a Claymore Kick. The show closed as McIntyre stood over the Undisputed WWE Champion.
Winners: John Cena and Cody Rhodes via DQ.
Grades: B+
Analysis: It was a fine ending to a decent episode of Friday Night SmackDown. The crowd was electric from start to finish, and they got Cena wrestling on a weekly show. This tag match was unexpected, but WWE has the story in the right direction. The Cena and Lesnar program will wait until Cena handles Logan Paul. On the other hand, McIntyre’s finally getting the moment he deserved as he has the Undisputed WWE Champions in his eyes.
