Ashes 2021-22 brings in a difficult time for Australia and England. In this Ashes series, Covid-19 Concerns have taken teams, staff, and even Umpires. Due to Ashes Covid’s concerns, the start of 4th test is in doubt. Australia has retained the Ashes in a decisive way. They comprehensively won the first 3 test matches. Ashes 4th test is scheduled to start on 5th January. But Covid hit the ashes badly and concerns over the completion of Ashes are now emerging.
Covid Positive people
The recent player to get positive Covid-19 is Travis Head. He is now quarantined for 7 days after his PCR report shows contact of coronavirus. Usman Khawaja is the probable replacement for him. Head Coach of England Chris Silverwood also contacted a Covid positive family member. So, he is also in quarantine. Assistant Graham Thorpe is now with the team. England’s other coaching and other staff members are also in quarantine. This staff includes spin bowling coach of England Jeetan Patel, Fast Bowling coach Jon Lewis, and expert David Veness. On the other side, Match Referee David Boon also got Covid positive and is also in quarantine. He will also miss 4th test.
Ashes Covid Concerns damages Future Cricket
England has seven positive Covid cases. On the other hand, Australia has also positive Covid people. Covid also hit Big Bash league. England team moved to Sydney for the preparation of the 4th Ashes test. It is likely that the series will happen as per schedule. The Big Bash is also taking place as per schedule with some grade two players taking the original players place. This thing will bring some concerns over the future of Cricket in the Covid era. They should focus on all concerns of Ashes Covid and looks into the matter closely to bring the best solution.
England and Australia are the two teams that opted out of tours in every tough situation in other countries. When they themselves played in these situations then what message they are giving to Cricket World? What will they do if they are touring in Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, or even Africa? Will they continue to play or leave the tour as they mostly do? These concerns can bring a fight between Cricket playing nations in the future. We are hopeful that everybody will stay safe in these situations.
